My latest obsession (in food): Flatout flatbread

The day I curiously picked up a bag of flatout flatbread was life changing. Yeah ok, I'm being a bit dramatic, but seriously I love these things.

First, they are delicious. I'm talking even if you have had them in your pantry a couple of weeks ,they still taste fresh and soft kind of delicious.

Second, they are only 90 calories. Yes, just 90 calories. That's like what, half the calories of sliced bread? I honestly don't know because I never buy bread anymore. Even though flatouts are low cal, they still make me feel full, but nowhere near as heavy as bread does.

And finally, flatouts are versatile. Ok, so maybe I only use mine as a wrap for chicken salad right now, but when I get tired of eating that, I at least know that I've got some options. You can make a pizza with a flatout, or use it for a burger, or quesadillas or tacos or...yeah, just about anything. They even have a ton of recipes on their website that you can choose to make or simply use as inspiration.

So look for these handy items in your grocery store sometime soon. It's a nice way to mix up the average brown bag lunch at work!

My latest obsession (in food): Granola cereal

I can't remember a time when I haven't loved cereal. But I realized recently that maybe it was time for me to start eating more "grown up" cereals instead of the Capt'n Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch that I usually enjoy.

So one night while grocery shopping at Target I decided to start with a couple of granola cereals. Holy moses. Turns out, they are DELICIOUS. Now, granted, they probably aren't really considered "healthy" considering the amount of sugar in each serving, but I still figure it's better than a bowl of Cookie Crisp or a packet of pop tarts.

And another plus is that just one bowl of granola cereal keeps me full until lunchtime. That's something I have never experienced with any other cereal—or many other breakfast foods for that matter.

Here are a few of my favorite granola cereals in case you want to give them a whirl. They each cost about $3.99 a box, which sounds kind of pricey, but when you think about the multiple meals you get from that, it's really a pretty good deal.

• Archer Farms Strawberry Granola Cereal with Flax Seed
• Archer Farms Lemon Blueberry Crisp Granola Cereal
• Cascadian Farms Dark Chocolate Almond Granola Cereal
• Cascadian Farms French Vanilla Almond Cereal

My latest obsession (in food): Express lunch plate

Somewhere around the beginning of the year I decided to clean out one of my kitchen cabinets. And when I did I found this handy cookbook that a roommate had given me a couple of years ago. She had worked for Oxmoor House so she had a plethora of books at her disposal and I was one of her lucky recipients!

Anyhow, it's called the CarbLover's Diet and as I flipped through it I thought, hey this stuff actually looks good. So I did it for a while and then like everything else, I just ran out of time to cook every night and shop at the grocery store like you need to be able to do for this kind of meal planning.

Even though I quit "following" the book, per se, I actually have a couple of recipes or food ideas that I still use from it on a weekly basis. One of them is the express lunch plate. What is the express lunch plate you might ask? Oh, well let me just tell you!

The express lunch plate:

• a hard boiled egg
• an ounce of cheddar cheese
• a sliced apple
• 3 rye crispbread crackers

I'll be honest, I substitute the rye crackers for the equivalent amount in triscuits instead. Mostly because they are just easier to find in the grocery store.

What I love about this meal is simple: with the exception of boiling the egg it's pretty much grab and go, it's low cal (right at 400) yet filling and I feel like I am getting a variety of what my body needs in just one small meal. Plus, oddly enough, I eat this about 3x a week and I haven't got tired of it yet!

So if you like all of the pieces of this meal, you might think about adding it into your lunch rotation. It's just such an easy and quick fix!

My latest obsession {in food}: Chobani Bite

So something I think I don't talk about much is my LOVE of food. I honestly just love to eat. Though I really don't know too many people that don't...do you? (Or at least maybe I just surround myself with people who have the same interests?!)

Anyhow, since I do love to eat so much, I typically find myself going on "kicks" where I become obsessed with a certain product from the grocery store or maybe a meal that I have found is easy to make and somewhat healthy (for me anyhow!) so I eat it repetitively.

And of course I figure that if I love it, then everyone else will too and I should share this info with the world. Ok, that's a little bit of sarcasm, but for real, I figured it was worth exploring as a new blog post series in case I might stumble upon anything you guys haven't tried yet. So this first post features these awesome new yogurt flavors from Chobani I found at the grocery store one day.

I'm honestly not much of a yogurt eater. I try because I know it is good for me to eat, but I am very picky about the flavors that I can actually manage to swallow. However these are like dessert to me. Seriously. I mean, caramel covered pineapple chunks? Coffee with dark chocolate chips? Raspberry with dark chocolate chips? Yes, yes and yes please!

Don't get me wrong, these are not a snack that I can eat and not feel hungry an hour or so later, but they are perfect for satisfying that sweet craving you get occasionally and in a guilt-free manner since they are only 100 calories.

What about you guys? Any secret grocery store product you love that I should know about?

ps. Oh and my disclaimer: please do not let me mislead you. I will not be posting cute recipe ideas. I am so not a cook.  I mean, I'm not terrible (I think hope?) but I am just never home enough to actually cook anything. And I am somehow perfectly ok with that.
