Design project: Rehearsal dinner invitation

So last weekend was a blast. One of my best friends, Torry, married another one of my (now) best friends, Nicole. It was such a fun & love-filled weekend with all of the framily in town together again.

You would think that things couldn't be better except that I was able to be a part of the wedding weekend in my own special way, which as you know usually involves some type of graphic design. I ended up designing both the rehearsal dinner invitations and the wedding programs.

The rehearsal dinner invites were pretty simple and straightforward. Torry had sent me several examples that were mostly typographic, so I thought I would create something similar and make it personal by using a little southern slang in the text. And of course, they must be navy and yellow.

Put it all together and you've got a nice, clean, no-nonsense rehearsal dinner invitation. Stay tuned for the wedding programs blog post!

What to wear: Rehearsal dinner

Oh. My. Goodness. I am not even believing Ashley's wedding weekend is actually here. Bananas! But it is,
and I am looking forward to a very fun-filled wedding activity type of weekend. It will so great to finally
have all of our framily back together again.

Considering that I did a "fashion show" from dresses out of Cassidy's closet last night looking for the perfect
dress for the rehearsal dinner tomorrow night, I figured I'd just do a little "what to wear" post on that very
topic today.

While I am a firm believer in sticking with a fun, short flirty dress for said occasion (which is obviously what
I borrowed from Cass last night) I also included a few longer dress lengths and even one pant suit in the lineup.
Cause you know, we all have different styles!

Happy friday yall! Hope your weekend is filled with as much love as mine is about to be! :)

Plated: A beachy keen wedding

When one of my favorite clients asked me to create her brother's rehearsal dinner invitations with a beach theme, I knew exactly where to look for inspiration—Jake & Jodi's wedding photos. Jodi is one of my running partners and last April she and Jake were married at the beach. I remembered ooohing and ahhing over her photos with my other running pals last summer, so I knew they would be exactly what I needed to create my own beachy keen wedding rehearsal invites.

See, a beach theme is tricky. You could take it way too far and it will look like a one of those badly decorated condos in PCB. But I knew that Jodi had mastered what she calls "classic and clean beachy, without the tacky in-your-face beachiness" and that if I just looked to their wedding for inspiration, that I should come out pretty good.

So here's the final product. I used the blues, greens and tans, which is what my client already wanted. But then I loved the burlap shown above, so I recreated that texture in the bottom design element of the invitation. And I also liked the whimsical, yet not too fancy font in all of their signage so I found something a similar to use for the bride and groom's names.

What do you think? Did I achieve a clean and classy beachy keen invitation?
