Under the {fashion} influence: Busy Phillips

A kind of crazy thing happened on a recent trip to a local consignment store here in Birmingham. My mom and I saw this really neat triangle necklace on a mannequin as we walked in. She pointed it out to me, knowing that I've had a thing for triangle jewelry lately. I nodded that I had seen in, kept it in mind, but kept shopping in case I found something else I wanted instead. An hour or so later I'd ended up with only a pair of boots in hand, so I went back for the necklace.

I took the treasure home and placed it on my jewelry tree. Two days or so later I looked at it as I passed in my room and stopped dead in my tracks as I realized, doh! That is the exact same necklace I had seen on Busy Phillips and I had even chosen that photo for a "what to wear" post. Clearly I had to recreate that outfit.

While I don't have a fun printed skirt like hers, I did at least have a short pleated one, so I figured that was similar enough. It's not the exact same outfit, but I think it works. The amazing necklace find definitely helps!

What to wear: Interviews

Other than a first date, I think trying to determine what to wear for an interview might be the most nerve-wracking thing. I'm not old school, so I don't think a suit is the way to go. Well, unless you're interviewing for a conservative job at a law firm or something in politics or something along those lines.

Otherwise, I think as long as you keep it classy and stick with a polished look, you should be good to go. But remember that you not only want to look professional, but you also want to be memorable! So try to opt for a bright color dress. Or if you choose a neutral dress pair it with some funky shoes or bag or another interesting accessory. Just in case you need a visual, above are a few leading ladies that I think seem to have this look down just about right.

What to wear: Spring/Summer Weddings

In honor of two very good friends of mine that are getting married this weekend (Emily in KCMO today and Tayo back in my hometown tomorrow) and the fact that I am missing both of their weddings because it's track season, I thought I would do a "what to wear" post for weddings. I know I always need a little inspiration for these events during this time of year (and more inspiration is needed for fall and winter weddings!) so I thought maybe you gals could use a few styling ideas as well.

I chose these leading ladies to offer a variety of styles for either casual or formal weddings, but yet they are all still polished enough for a special occasion like this.

QUESTION: I almost chose a red dress that Michelle Williams was wearing...would any of you guys ever wear a
red dress to a wedding? Or is that asking for all eyes to be on you instead of the bride?
