Under the (fashion) influence: Diane Kruger

I am so psyched to be back blogging again. And I am even more psyched to talk about this killer wood ring I received from Altin Place. Not only did it arrive in super cute packaging (which I am a total sucker for) with the Hawaiian islands printed in silver across the exterior ring box, but it's also a beautiful finishing piece to pretty much any outfit.

I really can't wait to rock it with something a little more boho, but I love how versatile it is that I could wear it with this outfit that was inspired by a photo I saw of Diane Kruger. As soon as I saw this pic I knew I had similar pieces to recreate it and I can't believe I didn't think of such a classic outfit idea on my own.

Here's the cheapskate breakdown:

1. Plaid coat, Marshalls ($59.99)
2. Striped sweater, Hammer's ($2.98)
3. Pleather leggings, ModCloth ($34.99)
4. Pumps, thrifted ($2.99)
5. Crossbody bag, Charlotte Russe ($9.99)
6. Sunglasses, gifted (thanks Peach!)
7. Vintage cocktail ring, gifted
8. Koa Wood Ring c/o Altin Place

Total: Under $125.00

It ain't easy being green

I'm not sure about the rest of y'all, but life has been incredibly hectic this holiday season. And sadly not a lot of it had much to do with a busy social calendar of parties and what not. Work has just been insane. In fact, I have been so busy that I couldn't even get these photos up on the blog until now...and my brother took them on Thanksgiving Day! Ridiculous.

Anyhow, I am here now and hoping that things are finally about to slow down as Christmas approaches. So yeah, my brother took these photos at my parents house after we all stuffed our faces with turkey and dressing and the rest of the "fixins." There's this abandoned barn across the street that the developer of the neighborhood has left on the property and I am personally thankful that he has. I've been wanting to get some shots out there for a while. So glad we were finally able to make that happen because that backdrop coupled with the glow of the sunset that day made for some pretty great photos I think!

Here's the cheapskate outfit breakdown:

1. Green sweater, gifted (wayyy back, from my PawPaw)

Aztec and leather (ok...pleather)

I feel like today's post really goes back to this one. Because Chris, the awesome dude behind the lens of the camera who took (and edited) all of these amazing photos, falls into the fourth paragraph of that blog post about climbing.

Yep, Chris was one of the first people I met when I started climbing. He was encouraging to me from day one and he still fills that role for other new (and old) climbers. He came to see me in the hospital when I did this and now he's the one with a brace on his arm—just for a totally different reason.

One of the best parts about this photoshoot (I mean, besides my killer outfit—am I right?!) is that Chris only recently took up photography. And he clearly is already ridiculously good at it.

But I also love that I can look back at these photos and this shoot and see just one super duper concrete example of the type of friendships I've made since I started climbing. It's so nice sometimes to be able to connect the dots and actually see where life brings you and who it brings into your life.

Chris is getting ready to leave for Cali for a few months and you can bet that me and a ton of other peeps are going to miss seeing him and hearing his goofy remarks around the gym. But I can't wait to see the photos he takes while he is gone!

Ok, here's the cheapskate outfit breakdown:

2. Gray tank, Urban Outfitters ($24.00)
3. Leggings, ModCloth ($34.99)

Faking sunshine

Yall, the weather here lately has been the worst....the WORST I tell you! Rain and storms almost everyday. Leslie and I got lucky and managed to sneak in a quick photoshoot yesterday between the clouds and seemingly constant drizzle.

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes when the weather is gross like that, I find myself wearing brighter colors to fake like it's sunny and pretty outside. Which is exactly why I'm in turquoise and yellow here. I mean what says summer beach fun more than a color combo of turquoise and yellow? Exactly...nothing!

Good news though, the sun is legitimately out today, so I'm not faking a thing. Woo!

Here's the cheapskate breakdown:

1. Turquoise skirt/dress, Parisians (?? - crazy old)
2. Cream lace vest, Banana Republic ($59.99)
3. Scarf/belt, gifted/passed down
4. Wedges, Charlotte Russe ($12.50) *buy one, get one half off deal
5. Clutch, Altar'd State ($9.99)
6. Sunglasses, Forever 21 ($5.80)
7. Heart pendant necklace, gifted/passed down
8. Circle necklace, Brooklyn Flea ($20.00)
9. Square ring, Brooklyn Flea ($5.00)
10. Leaf ring, gifted (thanks Em!)
11. Thumb ring, Charlotte Russe ($2.99)

Basic black

I have to say, it is SO great to have "professional" pics again! Certainly no disrespect to Leslie and her amazing iPhone photoshoot abilities, because without her taking time from her day I wouldn't have any outfit photos period. So I definitely appreciate her! But you can just tell such a difference when you look at these photos my brother took with his ridiculously professional camera versus the ones we usually take with a phone.

I mean, this was a complete impromptu photoshoot and I think these look so amazing. I am super grateful to my bro for taking the time this past Sunday to snap a few pics of me. Granted, we were trying to kill some time around his house before we had to go to our grandmother's, but still. He could've been just chillin on the couch instead, so I'm glad he "took one for the team" so to speak.

Anyhow, it was super fun getting to actually not only spend time with my brother but also spend time while taking the pics and being able to review them as we were shooting. Plus, now you know what I look like on any given Sunday...just in my basic black dress after church that morning. Oh and I realize that this ensemble is nowhere near boho, but I couldn't resist a couple of good hippity dippity flower field shots when the backdrop was literally right there in Josh's backyard.

Here's the cheapskate outfit breakdown:

1. Dress, GAP outlet ($24.99)
2. Guess pumps, DSW ($29.99)
3. BCBGirls Bag, Zoe's ($30.00)
4. Sunglasses, Dollar Tree ($1.00)
5. Circle ring, Brooklyn Flea ($5.00)
6. Square ring, Brooklyn Flea ($5.00)
7. Necklace, The Clotheshorse ($10.50)
